Motivational Interviewing (MI) is one of the most effective and widely supported approaches for enhancing client engagement, reducing resistance, and strengthening motivation for change. In this one-day intensive, Carissa Muth, Ph.D., offers an in-depth, clinically focused exploration of MI for mental health professionals working across therapeutic, clinical, and community settings.

Dr. Muth will guide participants through the core spirit, principles, and communication strategies of MI, highlighting how MI enhances existing modalities such as CBT, DBT, trauma-informed practice, addictions treatment, and relational therapies. Attendees will learn how to navigate ambivalence, deepen the therapeutic alliance, and strengthen client capacity for self-directed change through collaborative, autonomy-supportive conversations.

Designed for clinicians who regularly work with individuals experiencing ambivalence, resistance, or uncertainty about treatment, this workshop provides both conceptual clarity and hands-on clinical skills that can be applied immediately. Participants will gain tools that support a wide range of client populations, including those dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, relational challenges, or chronic self-doubt.
