According to Dr. Len Sperry, “Good therapists treat clients, but great therapists treat clients following a plan.” At the heart of effective therapy is a deep understanding of the client—assessing their needs within the context of their environment and using that insight to develop a thoughtful, evidence-based treatment plan.
This webinar, led by Dr. Muth, will explore the essential role of both general and formal assessments in clinical practice. Participants will gain a practical framework for conducting general assessments, including the use of screening tools to identify potential psychological disorders that may warrant further evaluation or referral.
In addition, Dr. Muth will introduce key formal psychological assessments commonly used in clinical settings. Attendees will receive an overview of standardized tools such as the MMPI-3, PAI, MCMI-V, MFAST, BHI, and TSI-2, and learn how these instruments can support accurate diagnosis, guide treatment planning, and track client progress.
This workshop is designed to enhance clinical decision-making by integrating assessment into each stage of the therapeutic process, ensuring that treatment remains responsive, measurable, and aligned with client goals.
Why Attend?
- Broadened skills: While general assessments are typically covered in counselling education, formal psychological assessments are rarely covered in detail. Even if therapists do not plan to conduct formal assessments as part of their career, they may still receive collateral information that requires them to have awareness about formal assessments and various common tests. This webinar will fill gaps in education and leave attendees equipped to read formal assessments that they may encounter in their counselling work.
- Improved care: Utilizing screening tools and guiding clients when referrals or additional support may be necessary can improve overall effectiveness of therapeutic work. This webinar will cover a myriad of screening tools and provide an overview of biological and psychological factors to consider during a general assessment process.
- Increased effectiveness: Including assessment tools in therapeutic practice can add to case conceptualizations and inform treatment plans leading to more thorough understanding and treatment of clients.
